Thank you for your email dated 2 November 2005 in which you recommend that the Criminal Code should be amended to permit assisted suicide.

I am sorry for the loss of your father and for the suffering you have described him enduring before his death.

I understand that very different views are held within the community about this matter, however, the Government has no plans to introduce legislation to alter the law relating to voluntary euthanasia.
