Dear Mr Smith.
Last week events of three elderly people in the news and media have once again brought the Euthanesia topic up for discussion.
As a new member to this discussion within the electorate circles, (although I did write to you prior the election for your views) I am enclosing a copy of Legislative Charter of Dying with Dignity Victoria , because this topic will not go away. Recent polls show 80% of Australians support a legal system of euthanasia
Are you aware of the growing number of elderly people seeking access to accurate and reliable end-of-life information to assist in decision making with partners and/or families by attending workshops or accessing reliable websites on the internet.
Many of these people have had some experience with either a friend or family member of the dreadful suffering that is taking place within our inadequate system for dealing with the end of life. Palliative care is improving, if you can secure a placement, but the idea of living in a nursing home for 3, 8, 16 years having pureed meals, and not remembering your closest family (as some of my family and friends) does not appeal.
This is about individual choice, and legislation that will support these decisions. I would like to know your views on this matter.
