- LETTER TO CANDIDATE 18/10/06 (contribution from a reader) -
October 2, 2006:
These questions were asked by a constituent of a Candidate standing in the
Lower House of the Victorian Parliament. The wording could be amended slightly
to apply to any political circumstance.
Dear Candidate:
* Would you please advise me of your attitude towards voluntary euthanasia and
legalised medical assistance to the dying?
* If elected, would you be prepared to support a Bill proposing a Law
legalising such assistance?
* If no such bill were to come before Parliament, would you be prepared to
submit a Private Member’s Bill during in the first term of the next State
Government?
* EUTHANASIA: painless death 2) the putting of a person to death
painlessly, esp. a person suffering from and incurable and painful disease.

Footnote by “Choice”
The one candidate that did do justice to the contributor’s questions was the
lady standing for People Power as the Candidate for Bayswater. Her
comprehensive response is included under Letters to Politicians as distinct
from “others” because she has the possibility of becoming one. The same
comments apply to a slightly lesser extent to The Australian Greens (Victoria)
Candidates Mr James Tennant and Bill Pemberton for the Upper Seat Eastern
Metropolitan Region
People Power, as well as The Greens Victoria will allow their Members to
have a conscience vote. The Nationals, also originally went for conscience,
but will be influenced by the Labor Leadership which would oppose legislative
change. The Liberals, should they not gain office, would most likely have a
leadership spill unseating Mr Baillieu who is Pro Choice as of ten years ago.
So was Mark Latham before he became Labor’s Opposition Leader. It will come
down to the Politics and the games people play at the expense of those most in
need of Pro Choice. Family First is a religious based party so automatically
would be Right to Life Advocates. At last count I saw 49 political parties
registered in Victoria . The Upper House will hold the Balance of Power but to
which groups will that honour fall.
